a short long weekend

My niece just stayed with me for a long Fall weekend that went by in a flash. We jumped in the leaves, still a little wet from the rain. She learned and I re-learned how to crochet. We played games- Fibber, Candyland & Monopoly. We read books and talked and danced to our favorite songs. She even tried on my torn fabric skirts and I snapped a couple of beautiful photos as she twirled around. She's the biggest part of my heart and my pint-sized Muse.

It was a perfect week at Brimfield's September show. Sunny skies and the usual mix of eclectic, bizarre and beautiful things. Brimfield never seems to disappoint. As soon as we drive onto Route 20 in Sturbridge, before I even see the tents, I feel the excitement. While walking the fields on my selling breaks, I snapped a few photos of some treasures that were begging to come home with me. 

I'm already thinking about May.

I received an incredible package in the mail this week from my friend Mandy Behrens. Mandy is the artist behind Weathered Silo and one of the kindest people I’ve ever had the good fortune to know. Her ‘affinity for the old ways’ is apparent in everything she creates. The painting above, “Midday Wheat”, is from her Colorado prairie landscape collection, it’s painted on hemp/organic cotton fabric and beautifully affixed to salvaged Mexican hardwood. The weight of the wood layered with the textures of raw fabric edges and brush strokes of oil paint are so true to Mandy's inspiration. It makes me very happy to look at this everyday. The gorgeous intense blue textiles you see, were hand dyed by Mandy with woad, a natural earth-friendly dye. The colors are so stunningly rich that they look aged, like fabric you would find in an old trunk full of treasures. I plan to make something special with the textiles and once I do, I’ll be sure to post.

new life

The second I saw the first flower coming up through the dirt, it felt like new life was breathed into me. That was one LONG winter and I'm so happy that spring is here. My head is actually already in summer, hence the bright colors in my shop. Probably the brightest yet for Untold Imprint. It felt right though, especially since I'll be at the very festive Waldorf School of Princeton May Fair in a couple of weeks with all my new wares...cotton gauze scarves, summer wrist wraps and hand dyed garlands.

I'm very excited to announce that beginning today, I'll be offering a selection of vintage items in my Etsy shop. This has been something I've wanted to add since I began Untold Imprint. I considered opening a second online shop just for vintage but decided that when/if I open my dream brick & mortar, I would most definitely want it to reflect how I live, a mix of my handmade creations as well as vintage finds.  Shared a few apples with the squirrels today. I'm missing the chipmunks terribly during these cold months but I've taken a shine to these little guys. Their footprints in the snow are too precious.
